Teaching my daughters ToonDoo

The Idea

ToonDoo is a cool, comic-creating tool, a fun site for kids.
They can create their own comic strips with just a few clicks or drag and drop
.
Instead of letting my daughters watch to much useless video's on YouTube, I asked them if they would like to create Toondoo 's? They both screamed YES!.
They had seen ToonDoo at the BE-STREAMING Festival. and the liked it.
So it was time to get them to work.

Work independant

I had a lot of work to do also and thought the best thing would be to have them learn and create  on their own.
I searched for a short tutorial and helped them create their accounts for ToonDoo.

Instructions

When they were finished watching the tutorial, I gave them these basic instructions :
  1. Start simple with one or two rectangles
  2. Choose a background
  3. Choose the people or properties
  4. Place the text.

Monitoring and guiding

While I was doing my work, I often went to see what the were doing. They were busy trying and needed some help also. I guided them on choosing and placing objects and publishing.

They were very exited and had spent hours creating some Comic Strips the first day. They were even more exited when I told them they would print it if it can be useful in their class.

Results

Here are some of the Comic Strips they created:

They have made a some grammar and spelling error's, but I decided to leave it for the moment. I do believe they will correct these soon.

Goals

My goals were met. I wanted them to do some educational activity.
The objective were:
  • learn toondoo by watching tutorial
  • create simple comic strip about math or reading.

Next

I also explained how they could use the  Comic Strips to create a book for a particular subject.
Now their assignment as a challenge is to create Books with ToonDoo's for Math and Reading.
